Bon Appétit magazine recently released its best new restaurants in the country, and out of the two dozen entries, Massachusetts snagged two spots on the list.

Rubato in Quincy and Moëca in Cambridge were recently listed in the foodie magazine's “24 Best New Restaurants of 2023.”

Michael Pagliarini and Pamela Ralston opened Moëca, an "elegant nose-to-tail seafood restaurant," last year at 1 Shepard St. in Cambridge, per the magazine. The menu changes often, Bon Appétit writes, but if you can snag a reservation, order the Cape Cod scallops, semolina gnocchi, smoked scallop taramasalata, or chickpea pancake.

Rubato, which also opened last year at 412 Hancock St. in Quincy, is a Hong Kong–style café operated by chef Laurence Louie.

Warm bolo baos, buttery fist-size buns with an irresistibly sweet crackly top, are wonderful on their own but sing louder when sandwiching slices of cold butter or craggy fried chicken thighs. Thick slabs of French toast gilded with condensed milk and cookie crumbs burst open to reveal a giddy gush of “lava egg yolk” custard. This is the food of a grounded, confident chef playing familiar tunes with abundant style. We’re just happy to be in the audience.
